Introduction: Rietvlei anti-poaching project

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is located in the City of Pretoria, South Africa and is managed by the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. The reserve is home to a large herd of white rhinos and a host of other species, including endangered cheetah.

Since October 2017, ERP has been instrumental in securing the lives of these rhinos and providing invaluable resources to the City of Tshwane. ERP, has in essence, become the front- line protection of the City’s Rhino population, in the largest urban nature reserve in the world.

ERP Relocates 5 Rhino from Nkomazi

ERP received an urgent rescue call from a property called Nkomazi Game Reserve. They had lost almost all of their rhino and needed to translocate the 5 remaining rhino urgently.

ERP responded and provided financial and technical support in the translocation of the animals to a safe haven. Unfortunately, the youngest rhino had already been shot and he died after release in their new home. Once again showing the urgency of the situation.

Introduction of Black Rhino into local Game Reserve

ERP supported a local nature reserve with the introduction of a founding population of black rhino. This introduction marks the establishment of a population of rhino in a region which has not had black rhino in over 100 years. ERP have been assisting the reserve for the last year in the management of their elephant population and are now adding value to their rhino population.
