HANDING OVER OF THE BUFFALO BICYCLES TO LEARNERS IN BLOUBERG, LIMPOPO PROVINCE

On Friday, 29th of April 2016, the P.E.A.C.E Foundation through the Elephants, Rhinos and People initiative distributed 86 Buffalo Bicycles to 86 identified learners in the Blouberg Local Municipality, Limpopo province.

These bicycles were bought through generous donations from various donors including the R47, 109. 26 raised in the United States of America and channelled through Lift-Up-Africa between August 2015 and December 2015. In distributing the bicycles, our aim is to encourage school attendance amongst learners who have to travel long distances (of more than an hour) to get to school.

A community hall, located close to the beneficiary schools, was chosen for the handing over of the bicycles. Gert Vermeulen and Nicolai Van der Merwe, both staff members of the EPI-USE group, coordinated the fundraising and implementation of this initiative, assisted by other volunteer staff members, who also attended the launch. Also invited were the local Municipality officials together with representatives from the Traditional Leadership, teachers parents and the community at large. A local South African television star and celebrity, Clement Maosa, graced the event with his presence, as Master of Ceremonies,, and was able to give a motivational talk to the learners present, regarding the importance of education in the lives of the youth. He is a role model to local youth, as he hails from the local community
